Hackers breached Sony Network Communications' So-net member database on October 19, stealing personal information from nearly 2.6 million current and former subscribers of So-net and Plala internet services in Japan. The stolen data includes names, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, and user IDs, as well as approximately 54,000 email addresses with passwords and 16 bank account records. The company discovered the breach on October 23, took the affected server offline, and has since begun resetting compromised passwords while continuing to investigate how the attackers gained access.
