Hackers Tried to Boil French Blood Banks. It Almost Worked.

A cyberattack targeted French Blood Establishment (EFS) cold-storage sites, attempting to raise freezer temperatures from -30°C to as high as 110°C, but monitoring systems detected the threat in time and no blood products or samples were lost. The attack came via a vulnerability in refrigeration equipment supplied by third-party company Coolworld, which acknowledged the incident. The attack mirrors a series of similar cyberattacks on refrigeration systems at supermarkets across France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, which caused millions in losses including up to €250 million in reduced sales for Dutch chain Ahold Delhaize.
