Japan's GMO Internet Group is offering up to $1 million in rewards through its GMO Cybercrime Bounty program for tips leading to the arrest of hackers who breached its Onamae.com Desktop Cloud service, after refusing to pay a $50 million extortion demand. The attackers accessed customer data and login credentials stored on the service's servers, which were used for FX trading, with brokers OANDA Japan and FXTF confirming that stolen credentials led to unauthorized trades on customers' accounts. GMO has shut down the breached servers, is compensating affected customers, and advises them to change passwords, enable two-factor authentication, and monitor their trading accounts for suspicious activity.
