Percona CEO Peter Farkas believes the database industry was caught off guard by AI, and that no existing database technology is well-suited to the demands of agentic workloads, which can involve an AI making hundreds of iterative attempts to produce a result. He argues that a purpose-built database for AI agents doesn't yet exist, as the AI market hasn't matured enough for its requirements to be clearly defined. Farkas also cautioned against vendors simply rebranding existing databases as "AI databases," stressing that genuine solutions will take time to develop.
