xAI Goes to Court Rather Than Fix Grok
Elon Musk's xAI is suing Minnesota to block enforcement of a state law banning nudification technology, which would fine AI companies up to $500,000 per harmful image generated — penalties xAI warns could reach tens of billions of dollars given Grok's scale. The lawsuit comes amid multiple lawsuits from victims, including minors, whose images were allegedly sexualised using Grok, and xAI admits it would be forced to restrict the tool if the law takes effect on August 1. xAI argues the law is unconstitutionally broad under the First Amendment, claiming it targets protected speech beyond genuine nudification, while Minnesota's attorney general has signalled the state will defend the law as a necessary safeguard against serious harm.
